Craftsmanship
Our Story
Talao comes from a very simple place—
how we were taught to see and value things.
In our families, objects were never just objects. We were taught to choose carefully, to keep things for a long time, and to take care of what we have. Not much was needed—only pieces that felt right, and stayed.
That stayed with us.
Talao is shaped by that way of thinking.
A respect for things that are made properly, used often, and kept.
There’s a natural pull toward pieces that feel familiar—almost like something you’ve seen before, or could have owned at another time. Vintage in feeling, but not nostalgic for the sake of it. Just honest, and considered.
We make in small batches, working with people who approach their craft the same way—steady, careful, without rushing. Materials are chosen for how they wear in, not just how they look new.
There’s also something we’ve always believed in—
that ownership doesn’t end at purchase.
You carry something for years, it softens, it changes, and when it needs care, you bring it to someone who understands it. A local tailor, a repair shop, a craftsman. There’s a quiet kind of community in that—people who keep things going.
Nothing is made to be replaced quickly.
The idea is that you live with it, repair it, and let it stay with you.
That’s it.
Each piece is produced in considered batches, allowing for a slower, more deliberate approach to craft. From the selection of hides to final construction, every detail is shaped by a commitment to precision, ease, and enduring form.
On craft and collaboration
We work closely with a small circle of independent ateliers and family-run workshops—partners chosen not for scale, but for their discipline and integrity. These relationships allow us to focus on what matters: exceptional materials, exacting construction, and the kind of details that reveal themselves over time.
On design
Talao exists between eras.
Our pieces are informed by vintage sensibility and the present moment—drawing from past references and reinterpreting them through a distinctly Talao lens. The result is a balance of structure and softness, familiarity and restraint, designed to feel both current and lasting.
On materials and longevity
We select materials with permanence in mind—full-grain and top grain leather, weighty hardware, and linings intended to endure. Each element is chosen not only for how it looks, but for how it wears.
With time, every Talao piece is meant to soften, patina, and take on a life of its own.
Not seasonal, but enduring.
Made to be carried, kept, and lived with.
